Living with Conviction seeks one experienced Administrative Assistant to join our team, helping incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals understand and exercise their post-conviction rights. We do not provide legal representation.

This is a six-month contract position, with a likely one-year extension at least.

LwC works to secure economic and racial justice with and for marginalized communities, especially formerly incarcerated individuals, through community-driven research, storytelling, and legal empowerment strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the office

  • Answer phone calls, take messages, and respond to inquiries in a professional manner

  • Format and proofread documents, letters, and reports

  • Assist with event planning and coordination

  • Maintain office supplies inventory and place orders, as needed

  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic files and records

  • Perform data entry and update databases, as required

  • Coordinate team schedules

  • Related responsibilities

Required Qualifications

  • Kind and communicative

  • At least three years of experience as an administrative assistant or in a similar role

  • Proficient in administrative tasks, including filing, word processing, data entry, and record keeping

  • Excellent clerical skills with attention to detail

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills – ability to successfully manage multiple duties, tasks, and deadlines and be able to prioritize work.

  • Professional phone etiquette and strong communication skills

  • Experience with event planning and coordination

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Google Workspace (Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat and willingness to learn new software applications

  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively

  • Desire to collaborate with colleagues

Preferred but not required:

  • Lived experience with the criminal legal system

  • Experience working in a legal office

  • Fluency in Spanish

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 per week
